Santigold brought her “Ten Years Golder” tour to New York on Friday, May 4, 2019 at Hammerstein Ballroom. She was joined on this leg on the tour by Naeem (formerly known as Spank Rock). I covered the fun show for Music Existence and the full gallery is now available here.
On Thursday, February 21, 2019, Vince Staples’ “Smile, You’re On Camera” Tour came to Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, NY. Staples’ concert featured support from Compton rapper Buddy and Armani White from Philadelphia.
This is the second time I’ve covered a live set from Vince Staples in the past few months after managing to miss him repeatedly over the years. I planned on attending his March 2017 show but ended up skipping it as I broke my tibia a couple weeks before his concert at Terminal 5 and couldn’t put weight on my right leg for six weeks.
I covered the show last night for BrooklynVegan and the full gallery and review are now live here. And I know it’s very early to say this but his set last night was one of my favorites of the year.
Yesterday, I shared my favorite portraits taken in 2018 and today, I’m concentrating on live images. Over the course of 2018, two spaces that I’ve shot shows in over the years sadly closed their doors in April (Silent Barn) and August (House of Vans) and I attended as many performances I could at each venue before their closures.
I’m truly looking forward to cover many more concerts in New York and possibly beyond in 2019.
Performing their largest hometown show to date, Parquet Courts headlined Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, NY on Saturday, December 8, 2018. They were joined by The Sun Ra Arkestra and were introduced to the stage by Timothy “Speed” Levitch. I last captured both acts at Rough Trade in May and at AMC Theatre in February, respectively. Despite attending concerts at Hammerstein over the past 20 years, this was my first time shooting a performance there.
I covered the concert for AdHoc and a full gallery is now live on their website here.
